Unfortunately, human trafficking is happening right here in our communities. Perhaps you read about the arrest last fall of a sex-trafficking ring based right here in San Ramon and Danville. California is one of the top four destination states for human trafficking. The Bay Area is one of the top destinations in the entire country.
Sponsored by the Danville-Alamo-Walnut Creek and San Ramon branches of AAUW, our January program will address this modern form of slavery, what is being done to fight this crime, and what local agencies and non-profits are doing to rescue victims. Find out what you can do to help! A panel of experts from Contra Costa County and the Bay Area will give you a comprehensive view of this important issue.

Happy New Year to all of our branch members! I cannot believe how quickly the year has flown by. 2015 has been a terrific year of accomplishments for our branch, thanks to the efforts of all of our hardworking members. As we look towards a successful 2016 we should reflect on what we have achieved in 2015.
Under past president Mary Ellen Blake’s leadership, we held a very successful “Goldieblox” program in January, an “Expanding Your Horizons” day, an International Program, the Northern California Leadership Training Day, the “Madame Mars” program, our annual Garden Tour, a branch appreciation party, and installation of the 2015-2016 board.
This fiscal year, beginning on July 1st, we held another successful Membership Brunch and a very successful October Program – “Tech and the Brain”. Our Fellowship Luncheon was held in October and we recently completed our 11th annual Holiday Home Tour. It was truly amazing how the co-chairs, Teresa Cheung and Roseann Krane, pulled this Holiday Home Tour together. I marvel at the amount of effort and coordination required, and the way so many of our members stepped up to take on all of the required tasks.
No wonder 2015 went by so quickly! And 2016 will include many other fundraising, informative, and entertaining events for our branch. Be sure and check out the calendar of events on our website.
As we close out the 2015 calendar and welcome our future successes in 2016, we extend our best wishes to you and your families for a safe and healthy 2016. Let’s make 2016 our best year yet for the Danville/Alamo/Walnut Creek branch.

You can be a part of this wonderful opportunity to increase interest and foster awareness of careers in science and math for junior and senior high school girls!

CHEERS TO THE DANVILLE/ALAMO/WALNUT CREEK BRANCH FOR A SUCCESSFUL 2015 FUNDRAISING YEAR!
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to express our gratitude to every donor who contributed in 2015. Every gift makes a difference. The DAW 45th Anniversary Educational Opportunities Fellowship received $21,555 and another $8,000 was contributed to various other funds.
The eighth annual AAUW Art Contest begins soon. Members can submit their original art online in January and vote for their favorites in February. DAW Special Interest Group Activities
On Friday, January 8, The Art & Garden Group will view “Looking East: How Japan Inspired Monet, Van Gogh, and Other Western Artists” at the Asian Art Museum. Cost is $20 for adults and $15 for Seniors (65+). Carpools will meet at 9:30 am at Sycamore Park n’ Ride or Alamo Safeway Plaza for the ride to BART for the 10:05 am BART to Civic Center. The group will watch the exhibit video, browse the exhibition, check out the gift shop, attend a free docent tour at 12:00 noon. and have lunch in the museum café. Great Decisions Begins Monday, Feb 1st at 7:30 pm and Tuesday, Feb 2nd at 1:30 pm.
Great Decisions is a program developed by the Foreign Policy Association to serve as a catalyst for developing awareness, understanding, and informed opinion on U.S. foreign policy and global issues.
