2013 Tour on December 13 & 14: See our Results
(December 2013) Have you noticed the crisp December chill in the morning air, heard the bells and carols everywhere, seen the lively red and green posters announcing the DAW-AAUW Holiday Home Tour? On Friday December 13 and Saturday December 14, five generous homeowners in Alamo will open their spectacularly decorated homes to welcome visitors to our major fund raising event. The goal is to provide 12 local middle school girls with a week-long Tech Trek program on a college campus to encourage interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) and to fund $10,000 of our branch’s 2014 Local Scholarships for local women and girls.
Visitors are in for a treat in each of these five homes as each has its own distinct personality developed through years of children growing up and family living. Throughout the homes designer touches mix comfortably with unusual travel mementos, children’s toys, a fabulous collection of trains, decorative memories of Christmas Past, and preparations for the coming festivities –- a Hannukah breakfast, a Christmas dinner and Holiday homecoming. Experience the joy of Holiday spirit with each home’s special offering of decorations, fragrant fir trees, wreaths and boughs, music and light refreshments in the garden of an Italian Villa.
Tickets purchased during the week of the tour or on the tour will be $35/person and $30/senior.
As in past years, we will offer home-made refreshments to our guests. Mary Mix has created and generously donated a quilt to raise funds for a local scholarship for a young woman interested in the Arts. Tickets for the drawing for the Holiday design quilt “Trellis of Stars” are available at our webpage and also at one of the homes. Drawing will be at the end of the Tour on Saturday’s Holiday Party.
We are still looking for more AAUW members to volunteer to be docents, drivers and provide refreshments.
