AAUW CA has a new statewide project this year: Leadership: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, featuring the book Leadership the Eleanor Roosevelt Way by Robin Gerber. AAUW CA envisions branches uniting to discuss the insights of this book for both individual and branch growth.
To support this statewide program, our branch will organize a branch reading group for all interested members who would like to read the book and then discuss it in May. We also encourage our literature interest groups to read and discuss the book, if you’d like.
To further support this project, AAUW CA will host a conference call on the 4th Tuesday of each month from 7-8:30 pm Pacific Time to discuss the chapter of the book for the month.
If you’re interested in participating in a branch-wide reading of this book, with a group discussion in May, please contact Holly Sauer to sign-up, ask questions, and/or make suggestions.
Book description:
Eleanor Roosevelt’s remarkable ability to confront and overcome hurdles – be they political, persona, or social – made her one of the greatest leaders of the last century, if not all time. In Leadership the Eleanor Roosevelt Way, author and scholar Robin Gerber examines the values, tactics, and beliefs that enabled Eleanor Roosevelt to bring about tremendous change – in herself and in the world. Examining the former first lady’s rise from a difficult childhood to her enormously productive and politically involved years in the White House, as a U.N. delegate and an honorary ambassador, an author, and beyond, Gerber offers women an inspiring road map to heroic living and an unparalleled model for personal achievement.
